Big Bullets defender George Nyirenda has agreed to a two-year contract with Zimbabwean top club Caps United.

Nyirenda, who was named TNM Super League best defender last season, sneaked out of the country recently for trials with the Harare-based outfit. He confirmed through Facebook on Sunday having been offered the contract.

Caps director Twine Phiri also confirmed that the dreadlocked centreback had been offered a deal “subject to clearing some issues”.

While the player claims to have no contract with the People’s Team, Bullets have all along claimed that he has an ‘implied contract’ as he has been drawing upkeep and other allowances from the team.

Neverthless, Bullets general secretary Harld Fote on Sunday said they won’t stand in the player’s way.

“However, our expectation is that we will get a cut of some sort because he was and is still affiliated to us,” said Fote.

But it remains to be seen whether Caps will be able to feature Nyirenda having indicated earlier in the season that their foreign quota is full leading to the failure to sign another Malawian defender Tsanzo Dalio.

Caps have two other Malawian players, Ishmael Thindwa and Gerald Phiri Jnr.
