Catholics hold healing prayers

The Blantyre Archdiocese Catholic Charismatic Renewal, a movement within the Catholic Church, was yesterday expected to hold confession, healing and deliverance prayers at Limbe Cathedral where the sick were prayed for while others received the Sacrament of Confession.

During the prayer service, Catholics adopt a charismatic style of prayer and are free to raise their hands, pray in tongues and dance for their God as is common in Pentecostal churches.

Coordinator for Limbe Cathedral Prayer Group, Henry Muona, told Nation on Sundaythat charismatic renewal prayers offer a rare opportunity for Christians to “mend their fences with God and be delivered from sin.”

Muona said renewal services are unique in that participants also cooperate with non-Catholic ecclesiastical communities and other Catholics in providing a common witness for evangelisation as encouraged by the church.“These services contribute significantly to the life, renewal and sanctification of God’s people. Through these prayers, we expect Christians to revive their relationship with God and start enjoying His abundant love once more,” said Muona.
