Catholics pray for cathedral robbers

Catholics in the Archdiocese of Blantyre have been urged to pray for armed robbers who recently attacked Limbe Cathedral on a mission to steal money from the church offices.

Police are currently hunting the robbers for killing a security guard, George Thom, and stealing K86 000 (US$215).

Limbe Cathedral parish priest Father Focus Chikweya told the faithful at St Anthony Catholic Church in Chinyonga last Sunday that the assailants need special prayers because “their consciences are dead.”

“Their action shows their consciences are dead. How can someone kill for such a small amount of money?” grieved Chikweya.

The priest expressed hope that God will guide the law enforcers in their search for the assailants.

“As the police intensify investigations into the attack, the church should also work hard to pray for the souls of the robbers. It is not our wish to have them perish, but would still want to know them and the motive that drove them into committing murder of an innocent guard,” said Chikweya.
