Vanguard Life Insurance on Wednesday presented a K407 879 59 cheque to Patuma Maluwa whose husband, George Maluwa, was shot dead by unidentified criminals in August in Namiwawa, Blantyre.

Presenting the cheque, Vanguard Insurance managing director Noah Mupfurutsa said his company made the gesture to demonstrate its commitment in fulfilling promises to clients.

“The policy holder, who was Patuma’s husband, held a special endowment policy with our company and after his death we are honouring our policy promise by releasing the money to beneficiaries,” he said.

Georgina Matabwa, Vanguard’s marketing manager responsible for individual life policy, urged Malawians to embrace life assurance.

“Life insurance policy reduces the burden on the shoulders of those left behind as the beneficiaries can use the money to solve some problems which couldn’t have been the case had the deceased not held it,” she said.

Speaking at the event, Patuma thanked Vanguard for being helpful in processing her claim in time.

“This is a huge relief to me and the whole family and I can now afford to pay school fees for my children. I will also use some of it to start a small business in order to sustain my life and that of my children,” she said.

Maluwa was shot dead by armed robbers who broke into his house in August this year.

At the time of his death, he was head teacher at Namiwawa Private School.

  1. For God’s sake why is this news worthy? Is it an advert or what? Infact is against privacy rights of the policy holder and beneficially. I with draw my insurance policy with this company. What if somebody is to kill me so as to benefit from the policy? Malawians we are beyond this! Please Vanguard be serious. It is as if a Vanguard akuchita ntchito zachifundo oh noooo!

  2. Exposing a widow’s financial benefits like that with about $1,000.00 only??… Shame on Vanguard Insurance. Mrs Maluwa deserves better privacy than this cheap marketing stunt…..I hope she already received workman’s comp., as her husband’s life was cut short in a job related exposure….

    1. whether this is marketing or not, this is a relief honestly to most of us who have always thought that insurance companies dont pay claims. i have seen that insurance is indeed necessary and will encourage all members of staff at my school to look no further but at Vanguard for life assurance products. thumbs up Vanguard. dont listen to Pichi and his friend above whose mandate is very negative and un-malawian. my malawians colleagues please dont be fooled by these two financially il-literate writers. reserve bank of malawi please help these fellows and the whole nation so that they understand and appreciate what insurance means.
