Nicholas Mbonela, popularly known as Che Nkope after a character of his comic radio skit, will be leaving for South Africa this week, Ministry of Health has revealed.

Spokesperson for the ministry, Henry Chimbali told The Nation on Thursday that logistical arrangements for Mbonela’s medical trip to South Africa have been finalised and that he is expected to leave the country beforeWednesday.

“The process that took long was booking a flight. It takes a bit longer because he is a patient. Otherwise, all is set,” said Chimbali.

In a separate interview, Mbonela said he feels better despite the side effects of the drugs.

“I can eat, and do some things that I could not the past weeks,” said Mbonela.

He also extended a word of thanks to those that patronised the fundraising show which was held at Robin’s Park in Blantyre three weeks ago.

Mbonela needs medical attention due to heart complication.

The Che Nkope versus Nancy comic creator was hospitalised for almost two weeks at Blantyre Adventist Clinic.

The Ministry of Information and Tourism promised to foot expenses of his trip and medical bills in South Africa.
