‘Chief Chilowamatambe was development conscious’

Minister of Local Government Blessings Chinsinga says the late Senior Chief Chilowamatambe of Kasungu was a champion of development.

He said this on Friday in his eulogy during the burial of Chilowamatambe at his Matambe headquarters.

“The senior chief was a staunch believer in rural development as he has been initiating various developments at the local authority level. He was a custodian of culture to ensure the future generations are culturally oriented,” said Chinsinga.

The minister asked the royal family to ensure that there is peace during succession period.

Chinsinga said the ministry was passing through a difficult period as last week they lost Senior Chief Mkanda and Traditional Authority Nyoka of Mchinji District.

Kasungu South East legislator Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, who is also Minister of Health, said the district has lost a hardworking chief.

Senior Chief Lukwa of Kasungu, who represented Kalonga Gawa Undi, the Paramount Chief of the Chewa people of Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, urged the bereaved family to identify rightful heir to the throne.

The chief, 77, succumbed to high blood pressure, diabetes and stroke at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe on Wednesday, August 10 2022.
