Chiefs revive Gaba interest

South Africa football giants Kaizer Chiefs are reported to be among DStv Premiership clubs waiting to pounce on Malawian forward Frank Gabadinho Mhango should he leave AmaZulu FC.

South African online publications goal.com on Tuesday reported that Amakhosi are waiting in the wings in case the player is released.

The publication reported on Tuesday: “Mhango is a big player in the Premier Soccer League and he is a tried and tested player. However, AmaZulu do not think they want to move forward with him as they look to rope in a couple of unknown players from abroad as they have their sights set on one or two players who made headlines in the CAF Confederation Cup,” said the source.

Mhango: I have also heard about it

“Now, given that he is still 30, Amakhosi might offer the Malawi attacker a season-long deal with the option to renew, which might be the stumbling block at this point. His groin injury is also the reason Chiefs might not want to commit long-term if they do reach an agreement.”

But in an interview yesterday, the former Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic striker said there is nothing official.

He said: “Well, I have also heard and read about it, but in the absence of official communication from my manager [Mike Makaab], I am afraid there is nothing I can say about it. For now, I remain an AmaZulu player as I am still contracted to them.”

However, Makaab said unless otherwise, his client is not among the 11 players Usuthu are supposed to offload.
