Chimango set for BB return Wednesday
Big Bullets ‘prodigal son’ Chimango ‘BlackBerry’ Kayira is set to make a comeback for the People’s Team Wednesday afternoon against his former club Escom United in a Presidential Cup second round match at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Kayira was embroiled in a transfer controversy involving Bullets, Silver Strikers and Escom United that saw him miss the first round match against Griffin Young Stars and a Super League tie against Azam Tigers.
The midfield maestro confirmed his availability for the match in an interview on Tuesday.
“I will be available for selection. As to whether I will play, it is up to the coaches,” he said.
Bullets coach Eddington Ng’onamo has described today’s fixture as tricky.
“Escom would want to prove that although they were relegated, they are still a formidable side and cup games are always difficult,” said Ng’onamo.
Escom chairperson Fanuel Nkhono and coach Kondwani Gawani said they will go into the match with the underdog tag.
“It will be a David versus Goliath affair considering that we have lost the majority of our players having been relegated and we are in the process of building a team,” said Nkhono.
“We lost over 25 players such as Chiukepo [Msowoya], Jacob Ngwira, Spencer Chipantha and Benard Harawa. Nevertheless, we will go there and enjoy ourselves, we have no pressure at all,” he said.
Bullets are the Presidential Cup defending champions, having beaten Moyale 1-0 in last year’s final match.
