Chimwendo heads AIP task force

Minister of Youth and Sports Richard Chimwendo Banda has been appointed new chairperson of the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) Task Force replacing Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale.

Minister of Information and Digitisation Gospel Kazako, who is also the official government spokesperson, has confirmed the development.

He said: “The tradition is to have another minister chair the task force while the line ministry works as a secretariat.”

At the helm: Chimwendo Banda

Chimwendo Banda was already a member of the task force which includes Kazako, Minister of National Unity Timothy Mtambo, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Sosten Gwengwe, Minister of Transport and Public Works Jacob Hara, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo and Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati who has just been roped in.

Kazako said in the past two weeks, Kawale, who chaired the task force while serving as Minister of Lands, travelled to Beira in Mozambique alongside Hara while Mtambo and Chimwendo Banda were in South Africa as part of a verification and due diligence exercise to ascertain availability of fertiliser stocks as well as engage manufacturers.
