Chinese company Sany Silicon Energy Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Energy to promote the development of renewable energy and sustainable initiatives in the country.
The partnership seeks to reduce carbon emissions through Sany’s photovoltaic development under its Lighting Up Africa series.
Speaking during the signing of the MoU in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Sany Silicon Energy general manager Guo Rui Guang said the company values green development, with low carbonisation being one of its three core strategies.
He said: “Sany will provide a comprehensive, one-stop solution integrating construction machinery with power generation, grid connection and energy storage.
“Our goal is to establish a benchmark project in the photovoltaic industry and support the growth of Malawi’s new energy sector.”
In an interview, Ministry of Energy director of energy services Joseph Kalowekamo said the partnership will promote renewable energy technologies, particularly solar technology.
“Sany Group has already donated some solar units and solar home systems to be distributed among selected Malawians.,” he said Kalowekamo said since Sany Group is a manufacturer of solar products, Malawi will have access to the technology at a lower cost compared to importing from private companies.
