Chipembedzo cha Makolo pour libation for rains
In an attempt to convince the Creator to bring rains, Chipembedzo cha Makolo Achikuda on Wednesday poured libation to the spirits of their ancestors on Ndirande Mountain in Blantyre and Chisato Hill in Traditional Authority (T/A) Msakambewa in Dowa District.

This cultural sacred act of unity and spirituality came in response to prolonged dry spells in some parts of the country.
Chipembedzo cha Makolo Achikuda believes that problems affecting the country can be solved through sacrifices to ancestors.
Its Southern Region spokesperson Chifuno Mlambe said in an interview yesterday that the weather situation forced them to pour libation.
He said: “As members of Chipembedzo cha Makolo Achikuda in Malawi, we have been observing the weather patterns, especially the rains. They have not been doing well in the Southern Region, particularly in the Eastern Region and Lower Shire of Malawi.
“There are cases of maize in gardens wilting and being uprooted. If this trend continues, it could lead to disaster for the country in terms of hunger as most people rely on maize for food. So we decided to plead with the ancestors to intervene for good rains.”
Mlambe disclosed that each time there are disasters, they pour libation and the situation changes. He gave an example of Cyclone Chido which did not affect people much as expected.
“You will recall that weather experts warned of massive flooding and property destruction because of Clyclode Chido. But we prayed to our ancestors and it did not cause much harm as anticipated,” he said.
The cultural faith’s Central Region spokesperson Kondwani Chiphanda said much as the region was not affected, theypoured libation ceremony in Dowa in support of their brothers in the Southern Region.
He disclosed that they have trust in their beliefs because each time they pour libation, the Creator listens to them. He dismissed suggestions that what they are doing is an old cultural event that needs to be stopped.
Even Christianity and Islam are old religions, so why should we stop ours when we see positive things?” He asked
