Chisale wins first silver for Malawi

Team Malawi yesterday bagged its first silver at the ongoing African Union Sports Council Region 5 Games in Swakopmund, Namibia, through athlete Nathan Chisale in 3 000-metres (m).

He finished the race in eight minutes 38 seconds behind South African Michael Bekker who did it in eight minutes 36 seconds.

In an interview, Chisale could not hide his excitement.

He said: “I am extremely happy to have won a medal for my country.

“My target was gold, but I missed it by about two seconds.”

Chisale attributed his feat to the preparations they had.

“I thank the coaches, Sports Council and all those that contributed to our good preparations,” he said.
