According to the statement released by the Office of the President and Cabinet on Monday, civil servants shall report for duties on January 6 2014.

“It is hereby notified for general information that it has pleased Her Excellency the President Dr Joyce Banda, in her capacity as minister responsible for the Civil Service, to grant civil servants leave of absence from 16th December 2013 to 3rd January 2014,” reads the statement signed by Chief Secretary to Government Hawa Ndilowe.

She says the leave does not apply to civil servants who are involved in emergency and essential services such as hospitals, immigration, customs, police and others.

Ndilowe says the President is wishing civil servants a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year and urges them to take special care during the festive season.
