CJC donates K11m ICT equipment to DCCMS
Climate Just Communities (CJC), through the Development Alternatives Incorporated (DAI), has boosted the operations of the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services (DCCMS) with a donation of two computers and two printers valued at K11 million.
The donation, made in Blantyre, is aimed at strengthening the department’s capacity to generate, process, and disseminate timely and reliable climate information to the public.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, CJC team leader Ken Matekenya said access to accurate climate information is essential for communities, especially in rural areas, to make informed decisions in the face of increasing climate-related challenges.
“Our work is centred on building resilience. Communities cannot adapt effectively if they lack reliable weather and climate data. By providing this equipment, we are ensuring that DCCMS is better equipped to serve Malawians with timely updates that can guide farming, fishing, and disaster preparedness,” Matekenya said.
He noted that extreme weather patterns, including floods, prolonged dry spells, and storms, are becoming more frequent, making climate services more crucial than ever.
Receiving the equipment, DCCMS deputy director Amos Mtonya hailed CJC for what he described as a timely intervention.
“This support will go a long way in improving our efficiency. The new computers and printers will help us prepare forecasts faster, process climate data more effectively, and distribute vital information to the public without delays,” he said.
