Cooperative impresses Parliamentary Committee
Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurance and Public Sector Reforms has expressed satisfaction with how Lilongwe-based Acades Cooperative Group is empowering the youth.
Committee chairperson Noel Lipipa expressed the sentiments on Friday during a visit to the cooperative’s offices at M’bwatalika in Lilongwe where it has constructed a factory and a warehouse.
He said cooperatives play a vital role in job creation and improving living standards of rural farmers.
“We are aware that our country is not developed, as a result, unemployment is high. Cooperative groups need to play a significant role in job creation,” said Lipipa.
He said there is need to empower youths with some resources to boost their businesses.
Public Sector Reforms Programme Principal Secretary Luckie Sikwese called for youth empowerment and creating a conducive environment for their businesses to thrive.
“There is impact in empowering the youth,” he said.
Acades Cooperative Group secretary Chrissy Jafali decried erratic electricity supply.
Acades Cooperative Group is a network of about 300 youths in agribusiness, which seeks to promote youth investments through provision of access to production resources and market linkages. The cooperative operates in Lilongwe, Mchinji and Kasungu.
