Creatives get busy over festive season

 A number of players in the local creative industry appear set to make full use of the festive season holidays by lining up activities.

Although the mood appeared to have been dampened with the passing of music producer Joseph Tembo and Black Missionaries guitarist Owen Hulera, the creative industry seems to have put the disappointment behind it.

The Chileka-based reggae group was forced to cancel some of its engagements over the weekend because of the funeral but they have since announced a resumption of their shows.

They marked their return on stage yesterday with a show at Zitherepano in Mangochi to kickstart their countrywide tour which will also see them performing in Lilongwe at M1 Centre Point today then in Kasungu on the 27th and finally in Mzuzu on the 28th.

Lucius and Paul Banda alongside the Zembani Band crew have an equally busy schedule over the Christmas period. On Christmas, the group will perform at Lilongwe Golf Club and on Boxing Day, they will be at Squirrels Park in Mzuzu.

From Mzuzu the Balaka ensemble will head to Karonga where they will perform at Planet Club on Friday. On Saturday they will perform at Mame Motel in Mzimba before making an appearance at Culture Club in

 Kasungu on Sunday.

The Zembani family will round up their engagements with a performance at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on New Year’s Eve.

Urban artist Piksy will be running an initiative called Festive Season Toy Drive. As part of the initiative, the artist is asking well-wishers to donate toys that are no longer in use which will in turn be donated at a nursery school in Mwanje, Chiradzula District on December 31.

Entertainers Promotions (EP) will usher in the New Year in style by hosting a New Year bash at Blue Elephant night club in Blantyre on December 31. The bash will feature local music sensational Lulu who will be joined by DJs Skip, Mask and Hype.

Dj Rubie, VJ Ice, DJ Flame and DJ Wayne will showcase their skills on the decks on Friday at Blue Elephant in Blantyre in what has been dubbed the Last Friday Party.

The Mathumela music family led by Lulu will welcome the New Year in style with a free music concert at Masintha ground in Lilongwe which has been dubbed Kawale Spotlight Concert. The guitar maestro will be joined by a number of artists, including dancehall star Anne Matumbi.

The new events place in Blantyre, the Scenic Events Centre will, on New Year’s eve host its first music show where urban musicians Dan Lu and Phyzix will be the main performers.

The show is expected to start at 7pm until the break of dawn.

And Club 20 Four 7 will shut down the year in style with an end-of-year party featuring Orga Family from Zambia, Symon and Kendall and Thomas Chibade.
