Csat for more awareness on parliamentary roles
Centre for Social Accountability and Trust (Csat) has urged civil society organisations (CSOs) and activists to promote awareness on Parliament’s role.
Speaking yesterday during a meeting with CSOs and activists from the Eastern Region held in Liwonde, Machinga, Csat citizen engagement manager Moffat Phiri highlighted that a lack of understanding about the roles of Parliament remains a significant challenge in the country.

He emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to raise awareness on the three fundamental functions of Parliament, namely representation, oversight and legislation.
“In April, we will launch a nationwide campaign on the role and importance of Parliament and its members. We need CSOs to help us amplify voices and increase the impact of civic education,” said Phiri.
Machinga District Civil Society Organisations Network chairperson Belinda Chimombo welcomed the development.
She said: “This project will create a platform for stakeholders to come together, discuss past actions and identify improvements for the September 16 General Election.”
Development Network for Youth Empowerment executive director Shali Ishmael said the project will ensure that candidates implement proper mechanisms to fulfil their manifestoes ahead of the general elections in September.
The meeting was organised under the Parliamentary Support Programme funded by the United States Agency for International Development through Democracy International
