Development Aid from People to People (Dapp) has donated clothes to flood survivors in Nkhotakota District.

Speaking during the donation at Ngala Evacuation Camp in Traditional Authority Kanyenda on Monday, Dapp resource mobilisation officer Patrick Jafali said they helped the victims in response to government’s appeal for support.

“We were concerned when we heard about the disaster. So, we mobilised resources to support the survivors with clothes as they lost everything during the disaster,” he said.

Group village head Simeon, who is also Ngala Evacuation Camp chairperson, said people at the camp lost their clothes following the floods.

He said: “These people had no other clothes to change into because they lost them during the disaster. It was difficult for them to buy new ones because they do not have money.”

Nkhotakota district disaster management officer George Zibophe said his office has started decommissioning some camps.

He thanked Dapp for the donation and appealed for more support from other organisations to support people still living in camps.

“Government is working hard to find a permanent solution to floods by, among others, reforesting bare lands,” said Zibophe.

The district experienced floods on February 28 2024 that claimed four lives and displaced 12 923 people.

Dapp made the donation with support from Humana Germany, targeting 2 133 affected households in the district.
