Deputy minister Tembo strengthens regional tourism ties
Malawi is seeking to deepen regional tourism cooperation and attract investment through strategic engagements held on the sidelines of the African’s Trade Indaba (ATI) in Durban, South Africa.
Deputy Minister of Industrialization, Trade and Tourism Edgar Tembo said he held discussions with his Zimbabwe counterpart Tongai Mnangagwa and South Africa’s tourism minister Patricia de Lille
The discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral partnerships with Tembo hoping that they will unlock “new investment opportunities for Malawi’s tourism sector.”
The deputy minister described the Indaba as

critical, pointing out that it continues to provide Malawi with a valuable platform to market itself as a competitive destination within the region and beyond.
“ATI remains an important platform for positioning Malawi as a competitive tourism destination, attracting investment, and advancing tourism as a key driver of economic growth and job creation,” said Tembo.
He said Malawi is committed to leveraging regional partnerships to boost tourism growth and increase the sector’s contribution to the national economy.
Tembo further said tourism remains central to the government’s broader economic agenda.
“Tourism is a key driver of economic growth and job creation in line with the DPP Government’s development agenda under the leadership of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika,” he said.
The African’s Trade Indaba has drawn tourism and trade stakeholders from across the continent, creating opportunities for networking, destination marketing and investment promotion.
