Diamonds Netball Club will start the OG Issa Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) title defence on Friday at the Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) where they will take on minnows Shizaella Sisters before facing Woget Stars on Saturday.

MTL Queens, who were not given fixtures along with Diamonds for the last two months due to their contribution of key players to the Malawi Queens squad that recently participated in the Fast5 Netball Series in New Zealand, will play against Aquaid Queens on Friday and Young Girls on Saturday.

Between the two local netball giants, it is Diamonds who will have a bigger task of saving their face after losing the Rainbow Paints Top Six Series title to Tigresses last weekend.

Tigresses are currently leading the 13-team log table with 24 points while Woget Stars are second with 21 points from nine games.

“Our recent loss to Tigresses in the Rainbow Paints finals should not mean the beginning of the end for us. We are still alive and we are prepared to start our title defence on a high note,” said Diamonds coach Griffin Saenda yesterday.

On the other hand, this weekend will mark a significant moment for MTL Queens who must win all their encounters to prove that their transformation to a complete youthful side really aims at ending their five-year title drought.
