The 2019 Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League (BDNL) concludes tomorrow at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) with reigning champions Kukoma Diamonds and rivals First Choice Tigresses meeting in a potentially explosive battle for ultimate glory.

Currently, Diamonds lead the 11-team league with 38 points from 19-straight wins while Tigresses have 36 points following a defeat and the hands of their rivals in the first round.

However, the fact that Diamonds already have a two-point advantage and are 33 baskets ahead, means Tigresses need to dig deeper to earn their first league title in three years.

They are required to beat Diamonds by at least 34 baskets.

Nevertheless, Tigresses coach Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa believes her charges are capable of turning the tables and snatching the crown from their fierce rivals, who have won the title for the past three seasons.

“This will be our toughest assignment of the season because it is not easy to beat Diamonds. However, our hunger for success outweighs the obstacles that stand in our way,” she said.

Diamonds assistant coach Noel Mussa said they have left no stone unturned to conclude the season with an unbeaten run.

“We have engaged an extra gear in our preparation ahead of this decisive match. We know Tigresses will come hard on us, but we are determined to complete our fixtures without registering a defeat,” he said.

BDNL general secretary Annie Hanjahanja-Billie yesterday said netball lovers should expect a mouthwatering encounter.
