Division bows down to pressure to move head teacher

The Central-East Education Division (Ceed) has transferred the head teacher of Nyangoza Community Day Secondary School in Ntchisi following demands by students over alleged poor administration and ill-treatment.

There has been bad blood between the head teacher, Elled Mwale and the students, a thing which led to Ceed to intervene.

Banda: It is for the teacher’s security

Speaking with Malawi News Agency after a meeting held at Nyangoza Community Day Secondary School on Wednesday, the Ceed manager Billy Chikhwana Banda said the transfer has been made for the safety of the head teacher.

“This transfer does not really mean the head teacher is guilty, but looking at the circumstances of how the students behaved towards the headteacher, we fear they can harm him. We want to protect his life and property.

“Also, we feel he will not be able to concentrate on his work in this environment and it is better to give him another place that he will work properly.” he said.

He urged students to find other solutions in resolving misunderstandings rather than vandalism, riots and assaults.

“I want to urge the students in all schools to find the best solutions in resolving conflicts and misunderstandings in their respective schools, they can talk to their teachers about it, report to the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) at their school or communicate to the Education Division and we will help them,” he said.

Earlier this week, the students held demonstrations demanding Mwale’s immediate removal.n
