Lilongwe based music spinner James Ibrahim aka DJ Scarpper has announced his retirement from working for clubs as a DJ and will now be working as an independent DJ ready for hire anytime for both local and international events.

In a Facebook interview on Sunday, DJ Scarpper said he has done his part in local club music and his eyes are on crossing the border.

“Malawi has the cream that can perform on the international market, but the problem is that we concentrate on local tasks. I want to make a difference,” he said.

Born on March 7 1985 in Zimbabwe, the self-acclaimed Malawi’s number one DJ says he started enjoying playing music at the age of 13. However, he broke through to serious disc jockeying in 2005 after being named the best DJ in the Sprite DJ competition for Central Region.

He is currently chief executive officer for Scar Records 85 and Team X1 Entertainment, a group of young musicians, DJs and dancers.
