Dowa innovator launches hub to nurture talent
Twenty-four-year old innovator Ernest Andrew, who gained national recognition in 2024 for developing electricity generated from air and other components, has launched a technology hub to support innovators.
The initiative, called Technical Empowerment Hub, was launched on Monday at Dowa Community Ground to help innovators access resources, mentorship and financial support to develop their ideas.
“The hub will help successful innovators to establish factories and start businesses that can transform their ideas into sustainable enterprises,” said Andrew.
He said his own experience of struggling to develop his innovation inspired him to create a platform to support other innovators.
Andrew, who also runs Renewable Energy Empowerment in Blantyre, said the initiative will be open to innovators across the country regardless of gender.

Airtel Malawi plc engineer responsible for network planning and optimisation Stephen Chisati described the launch as a major step towards promoting innovation in the country.
“The hub will create space for hidden innovators to showcase their ideas and contribute towards national development,” he said.
The hub’s trustee member Alfred Chauwa said the initiative aligns with the country’s long-term development strategy, Malawi 2063 which recognises innovation as a key driver for industrialisation.
A youth, John Matchado, who attended the launch, said it was high time the youth pursue innovative ideas to develop their communities.
