DPP officials contradict on APM outing
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) officials have given contradictory statements on party president Peter Mutharika’s whistle-stop rallies.
In an interview published in yesterday’s edition of The Nation, DPP secretary general Peter Mukhito indicated that the former president, who has conspicuously missed from the campaign trail since his last public appearance at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre on August 3 2025 when his party unveiled its campaign and manifesto, was scheduled to join the fray yesterday with whistle-stop rallies en route from Mangochi to Lilongwe.

However, the party’s spokesperson Shadric Namalomba yesterday told The Nation that Mutharika is expected to leave Mangochi for Lilongwe today with stops at Nsipe in Ntcheu and Biwi in Lilongwe.
He said Mutharika will at the weekend proceed to Mzuzu where he will conduct a rally.
Coincidentally, both Nsipe and Biwi were on the itinerary earlier shared by Mukhito.
Mutharika’s running mate Jane Ansah, a retired Justice of Appeal, has so far led the party’s campaign in the Southern, Central and Northern regions.
While Mutharika, 85, missed on the campaign trail, incumbent President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party, former president Joyce Banda leading People’s Party, Vice-President Michael Usi of Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu Party, UTM Party president Dalitso Kabambe, United Democratic Front torchbearer Atupele Muluzi and several others of the 17 presidential candidates have been crisscrossing the country in search for votes.
