Eagles coach calm on first league loss
TNM Super League leaders Blue Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona says there is no need to read too much into their Saturday 1-4 loss to Mafco at Nankhaka because there is still a long way to go.
“Mafco played well from start to finish. They were consistent, but we had patches of good performance. It hurts to suffer a first loss, but we should accept the result. There is a long way to go. There are many games to be played,” Msakakuona explained in a post-match interview.
The coach also had no qualms about Duncan Lengani’s officiation.
Mafco coach Stereo Gondwe said they needed to bounce back from two consecutive defeats, including last Sunday’s 1-4 loss to Kamuzu Barracks.
“We were unhappy with ourselves and we needed to respond. It is never difficult playing Eagles. We are familiar with their style,” Gondwe said in post-match interview.
During the game, Zasher M’nong’oneza netted a brace while Kalista Kalinda and captain Maurice Chiumia scored one goal each to hand the cops their first league loss in seven games. At the time of writing, Eagles barely survived by a point at the top with Big Bullets placed second.
