Ecobank Malawi Limited has partnered the Malawi Council for the Handicapped (Macoha) to drive this year’s Ecobank Day agenda, which is focusing on enhancing financial inclusion towards persons with disabilities.

Ecobank Day, which falls on November 12, is the bank’s flagship annual corporate social investment event showcasing commitment towards giving back to local communities. The day will be observed under the theme ‘Financial inclusion for all: Leave no one behind’.

Speaking during the signing of the partnership in Blantyre, Ecobank Malawi head of brand, marketing and corporate communications Tidzi Chalamba said the bank wants to uplift lives of persons with disabilities.

“Through this partnership, we will work together to uplift a number of skilled persons with disabilities that the institution has trained by giving them a head-start to their business so that they are economically and financially empowered,” he said.

Macoha acting executive director Dryford Mpunga thanked Ecobank Malawi for the partnership, saying it has come at a time they are preparing for this year’s Macoha Flag Week.

He said: “There are a lot of persons with disabilities in Malawi who are lacking support to be self-reliant.

“We thank Ecobank Malawi for this partnership. We strongly believe that this collective action will go a long way in advancing self-reliance among persons with disabilities.”

Last week, Ecobank Malawi partnered Bonface Ndamera, the only surviving member of Lucky Star Band and and social media Platform Mikozi Network, to drive awareness of the Ecobank Day.

Ecobank Malawi Limited is part of the Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, the parent company of the Ecobank Group, which employs about 14 000 people and serves about 29 million customers in the consumer, commercial and corporate banking sectors in 33 African countries.
