FAM proud of NPL’s Kanjere
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said it is proud of Nation Publications Limited (NPL) sports news analyst Peter Kanjere for scooping the 2013 Cosafa Castle Cup Best Print Journalist award.
Kanjere was voted the best out of close to hundred entries from 15 countries that took part in the competition that ended in Zambia last Saturday.
FAM general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said the feat by Kanjere is a big boost to Malawi football reporting.
“For a Malawian journalist to win that award ahead of reporters from other top countries with top publications in southern Africa, it is a big achievement that cannot go without the recognition of the FA,” said Nyirenda.
“We hope the rest of the media guys will look at this feat as an inspiration that they can also achieve great things if they work hard while remaining professional and ethical in their reporting,” he said.
Kanjere received 10 000 rand (K340 000) for the award. He is the second Malawian to win the award after workmate Garry Chirwa who won it in 2002.
Kanjere’s achievement came as a consolation to Malawi after the Flames performed miserably at the tournament, losing to under-strength Zimbabwe and Angola.
Kanjere is the reigning Namisa Sports Journalist of the Year and TNM Super League Print Sports Journalist of the Year.
