Football Association of Malawi will hold a beach soccer clinic to prepare for the two-day Stadal Building Contractors Beach Soccer Tournament which starts tomorrow.

FAM executive member, James Mwenda, a Fifa-trained beach soccer instructor, will facilitate the course.

FAM general secretary Sugzo Nyirenda will grace the opening ceremony today at Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi.

“We need competent administrators of the game who are conversant with Fifa regulations. We want the beach soccer tournament to run smoothly,” said Mwenda.

Stadal Building Contractors managing director Stafford Mpoola expressed gratitude to FAM for their effort to ensure the tournament is a success.

“As I said, I plan to sponsor the Southern Region Beach Soccer League. But this will depend on the success of the tournament. The training of administrators is very essential for the growth of the sport,” he said.

Mpoola has pumped in K200 000 (about $571) for the two-day tournament at Nkopola.

Winners will get K35 000 (about $100), runners-up will pocket K30 000 (about $85) whereas the third-placed team will get K25 000 (about $71).

Each participating team will get K5 000 (about $14) as consolation, according to Beach Soccer Malawi (BSM) general secretary David Saddo.

Saddo said all is set for the tournament on Saturday.

“There are great expectations from the teams after long periods of no beach soccer action. We are confident the tournament will be a success,” said Saddo.
