National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has encouraged farmers from Thyolo District to embrace manure to improve crop production.

Speaking on Saturday after touring a manure production initiative in group village head (GVH) Semu in Traditional Authority Khwethemule, Thyolo Nice district civic education officer Moses Kaunda said they were engaging people in mindset change to enable them to look into various solutions affecting their lives.

He said: “I am impressed with the progress of the initiative. The communities are showing passion towards manure-making.

“Their hardworking spirit to transform themselves augurs well with the mindset change concept we are promoting.”

Kaunda said Nice will continue engaging more communities and other stakeholders on mindset change to ensure that the Malawi 2063 agenda becomes a reality.

Semu Village Development Committee chairperson Emmanuel Siposi commended Nice for engaging people in mindset change concept, saying it has empowered people to start doing things on their own.

“The manure-making initiative is a result of mindset lessons we received from Nice. We are now not worried about the expensive prices of chemical fertilisers,” he said.

On his part, GVH Semu challenged the people to go for manure.

“With mindset change, it is possible to achieve great things. Let us embrace this philosophy to transform our lives,” he said.

One of the community members, Rose Feston, pledged to team up with other farmers to collect dung, grass and urine to make more manure ahead of the growing season.

With financial support from the Malawi Government, Nice is implementing various activities that seek to persuade people to embrace mindset change as an enabler of Malawi 2063.
