Fashionista dedicates award to celebration of creativity, culture
Fashion promoter Lorraine Kljajic says her recognition for the Lifetime Achievement UMP Fashion Awards is a celebration of the vibrant culture and creativity that Malawi and Africa has to offer.
Kljajic has been recognised by the 2025 UMP Fashion Awards for her contribution in promoting fashion under her Miss Culture Global and the African Fashion and Arts Festival.

Speaking in an interview yesterday from her base in South Africa, Kljajic said the award symbolises the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in their initiatives. She said the recognition is an honour for a Malawian woman working in the fashion business.
“This represents the stories we tell through fashion and the arts, showcasing our rich heritage and diverse identities on a global stage. I am passionate about empowering emerging talents and fostering a sense of community among creatives. This acknowledgment fuels my commitment to continue pushing these brands forward,” she said.
The fashionista said it is important to uplift African voices in the global fashion industry and she hopes the award will inspire others to embrace their cultural roots and pursue their passions fearlessly.
She said: “Together we can break barriers and redefine narratives, ensuring that our stories are heard and celebrated worldwide.
“I am excited for the journey ahead and look forward to using this platform to amplify the voices of Malawian and African artists, further promoting our rich culture and creativity on the global stage.”
UMP Fashion Awards organisers, Chitoliro Productionz, described Kljajic as a visionary entrepreneur, cultural promoter and philanthropist who has shaped the fashion and cultural landscapes globally.
Chitoliro Productionz executive producer Ken ‘Zizwa’ Limwame said Kljajic’s diverse background has fuelled her mission to promote cultural diversity and empowering women in business, fashion and leadership.
He said: “Her influence on the fashion and cultural landscape is immeasurable. She has dedicated herself to elevating African fashion and culture by building a platform that not only empowers women but also celebrating our African heritage.”
On her part, UMP Festival chief executive officer Aisha De Silva said Lorraine’s journey is a testament of what dedication, hard work and vision can achieve.
“Her work has transformed the fashion industry and opened doors for many young creatives. We are thrilled to celebrate her achievements at UMP Festival this year and recognise the legacy she continues to build,” she said.
The UMP Fashion Awards will take place during the UMP Festival, The Elevation Chitoliro scheduled for Cape Maclear in Mangochi from October 21 to 27. The fashion awards will celebrate individuals driving Malawi’s fashion, modelling and beauty industries.
