As TNM Super League holders Silver Strikers prepare for their trip to the Southern Region this weekend, assistant coach Hellings Mwakasungula is more concerned with his players’ physical conditioning.

Mwakasungula said fatigue could be part of the reason Silver, who face Evirom and Red Lions in Blantyre and Zomba on Saturday and Sunday respectively have not had a flying start to their title defence.

“They are going to be tough games; the only setback is that our players are being over used. I do not think they have had sufficient time to recuperate,” said Mwakasungula.

He fell short of blaming the football authorities, adding: “The challenge is for us as coaches to ensure that our players do not suffer from burn out.”

Silver, who have played the least league games, five, lying ninth on nine points, had to juggle between their league championship pursuit with cup games.

The Bankers lost in the 2013 Presidential Cup final two weeks ago. They contribute Frank Banda, Rodrick Gonani, Ndaziona Chatsalira and Charles Swini to the Flames.

Silver face Evirom who are yet to win in the league as they anchor the table on two points. But Evirom coach Paul Kachingwe is hopeful of turning the corner.
