Fire scare at Chayamba Building

Panic engulfed the Blantyre central business district (CBD) yesterday morning when news broke, and spread like bushfire, that one of the city’s imposing structures, Chayamba Building, which houses comfy offices as well as shops on the ground floor had caught fire. Scores of workers from the building’s offices tussled to save their lives while hundreds of motorists and passers-by looked on, only to discover that unidentified person from one of the offices had accidentally pressed the fire alarm.
