Funwe Seed Company employees last week visited farmers in Zomba to appreciate the performance of MH 26 and FH 1o hybrid maize seeds they distributed in the district.

Speaking after visiting the beneficiaries’ gardens, Funwe marketing manager Wed Chipungu said he was excited at what he saw.

“We introduced two types of hybrid maize seeds to farmers and the results are good because our hybrid varieties are disease resistant, early maturing and high yielding. Both MH26 and FH 10 can produce between 180 and 200 bags per hectare,” he said.

Chipungu said the company also offers open pollinated varieties (OPVs) such as ZM 61 and ZM 623 (champhale).

“We do have a variety of legumes such as soya (makwacha and nasoko), cowpeas, beans and groundnuts, among others.

“We may bring Funwe Hybrid (FH) 10 on the market next growing season. We want farmers to trust our seeds,” he said.

A farmer, Catherine Madeya, said she expects good harvest from Funwe hybrid varieties.
