South Africa-based Malawian forward Frank Gabadinho Mhango scored on return for AmaZulu when they edged lower league side Tornado FC in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday.

Prior to this match, Mhango had not featured in three consecutive DStv Premiership.

In a match monitored on SuperSport Television channel, Usuthu’s captain Mbongeni Gumede drew first blood in the eighth minute.

Mhango doubled the lead a few minutes later, with a delightfully crafted goal.

The Flames hitman pounced on a well-curled cross from Guily Manziba and released a hard-and-low short which gave Tornado goal tender no chance.

The 30-year-old has now taken his tally to six in all competitions.

Mxolisi Kunene scored the third, but AmaZulu had to survive a late scare as Tornado scored twice through Malcom Katz and Kenneth Dupane.

In an interview yesterday, Mhango said the goal will boost his confidence.

He said: “I had not played a couple of matches before this match and it was the inspiration I needed.”

The 2020 joint Premier Soccer League Golden Boot Award winner is AmaZulu’s leading scorer.
