In a new twist to wonderkid Gabadinho Mhango’s trials in South Africa, the striker is now trying his luck at another Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, Bloemfontein Celtic.

For the past two weeks, the diminutive forward was undergoing trials at AmaZulu.

Big Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire yesterday confirmed Gabadinho’s switch to Celtic, where he scored in his maiden trial match on Wednesday, which coincidentally was against AmaZulu. Celtic won 3-0.

Gabadinho could not be reached to shed more light on his switch, but according to Mkandawire, the South African agency that manages the player, Prosport International, decided to cancel the trials at AmaZulu because they could not agree terms.

“From what one of the agency’s directors told me a few days ago, AmaZulu wanted to sign the boy, but they could not agree on the terms. It is not that he failed to impress,” said Mkandawire.

At AmaZulu, the 20-year-old striker reportedly made an instant impression after scoring twice in a trial match against another Durban-based side.

He is scheduled to return home on July 31.

Also on trials at Celtic is Silver Strikers captain Lucky Malata.

Flames defender Limbikani ‘Pupa’ Mzava plays for the same club while former Flames captain John Maduka is the team manager.
