Gama withdraws from BT Synod GS position contest
Reverend Dr Billy Gama, head of Mulanje CCAP mission who was nominated by Blantyre Synod’s two presbyteries to run for the position of the general secretary in the August elections, has withdrawn his candidature.
Gama told his congregation last Sunday that he has decided to step aside to pave the way for the incumbent GS Reverend Alex Maulana to have another three-year term to continue with his plans of developing the synod.
“I have decided to withdraw my candidature for various reasons. One of the reasons is to let the incumbent GS to continue administering the synod. Secondly, I need ample time to research and I write more books and articles. Thirdly, I am chairing the Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) and, as such, I need more time to concentrate on activities of the board.
“So far, I have written two books to titled The Role of the Church in Politics and Secularisation in Britain and Malawi a comparative Inquiry,” said Gama.
With Gama’s withdrawal, the race for GS now remains among Maulana of Chitsime CCAP, Reverend Paul Mawaya (Michiru) and Lazarus Kadango (Mangochi).
Gama said he was happy serving in his home district and going to serve as GS would deprive Mulanje presbytery his services.
