Gambia pledges support in agriculture, others
New Gambia High Commissioner Fatumata Jahumpa says her country is ready to support Malawi in the areas of mutual interest, including education, agriculture and housing.
Speaking to journalists at Kamuzu Palace after presenting her letters of credence to President Lazarus Chakwera, she said like Malawi, The Gambia is also an agriculture-based economy, as such, there is a lot the two countries can learn from each other.
Said Jahumpa: “There is a company in my country that can invest in housing estates and help Malawi alleviate challenges it has in the housing sector.
“We also have some youth entrepreneurs who are into mining and do export to the East and Western countries, they can also invest in this country.”
She was one of four diplomats who presented credentials to the President yesterday.
The other diplomats were Evelyn Butoyi from Burundi, Sara Valdes Bolano from Mexico and Nativadad Isabel Pena Vonilla from Spain. All the four will not be resident in Malawi.
On her part, Vonilla said her government will work together with Malawi in the areas of education, youth development and agriculture.
Presidential press secretary Anthony Kasunda, in an interview, said as much as Malawi has its own initiatives in various areas of development, bilateral relationships are essential in enforcing and implementing policies that would complement the development efforts.
