The 2018 Central Region Gateway Netball Challenge Cup will be launched on Sunday at Mponela Community Centre ground.

The K35 million trophy is sponsored by Mpico Limited.

Both Mpico marketing manager Ellen Chapinduka Nyasulu and Central Region Netball Committee (CRNC) general secretary John Mhanjira have confirmed about the launch.

Ngwira was last week nominated for Player of the Season award

Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Francis Kasaila is expected to be the guest of honour at the launch.

Dowa Central legislator Jean Kalirani and chairperson of the Women Caucus in Parliament Dr. Jessie Kambwila will also grace the launch, according to the organisers.

“We are set for the launch on Sunday. This year’s competition has been accepted at the highest level by the government as evidenced by the acceptance of Minister of Sports to witness the launch,” said Nyasulu.

Mhanjira said the committee has taken the launch to Mponela to sensitise girls to the negative impact of early marriages.

“Mponela is one of the areas where there are high cases of early marriages and pregnancies among girls. So, in corroboration with the sponsors, we want to sensitise the girls on this, as the tendency increases during the tobacco season,” he said.

The event is set to start with parading of the trophy from Madisi followed by several activities including traditional dances.

The champions, Blue Eagles Sisters, will play against their rivals Civonets in the launch match.
