MSCE candidate arrested over cheating
Police have arrested a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations candidate at Zolozolo Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Mzuzu for allegedly being found cheating.
Mzuzu Police spokesperson Paul Tembo identified the candidate as Maggie Mtonga, 37. She was arrested on Monday.
He said she was found with a mobile phone handset which had pictures of examination papers. Mtonga was sitting for an English paper.
Said Tembo: “The woman entered the examination room with a mobile phone. She was found with the phone and when officials checked it, they found pictures of examination papers. She has since been charged with gaining access to examination material without authorisation and also being found in possession of unauthorised equipment in the examination room.”
Tembo said Mtonga will appear in court soon to answer the charges placed against her.
Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) spokesperson Mayamiko Chiwaya said she was yet to get a report on the arrest of the candidate. She said the board will come up with a comprehensive report at the end of the examinations.
Chiwaya also dismissed reports that Maneb will administer another MSCE examination.
Mtonga comes from Chimphinga Village, Traditional Authority Wasambo in Karonga.
