German club coach praises Mwisho

German 2 Bundesliga club Hannover 96 head coach Christian Titz has spoken highly of blossoming Malawian midfielder Mwisho Mhango, describing him as “highly talented”.

The 18-year-old Ascent Academy graduate, who made his debut for the Flames during the recent Four Nations Tournament, is fighting to break into the Hannover-based side’s main team.

“Mhango is a player who is highly talented and can be deployed in attacking midfield, but also on the wings,” Titz was quoted as saying by the club’s website hannover96.de.

He said the player possesses a great deal of technical skill and has

“significantly developed his game, especially in terms of physicality and intensity”.

Titz nevertheless noted that the youngster’s jump from Malawi to the 2nd Bundesliga is significant.

“The differences in pace, physicality, and defensive tactics are enormous, and that’s precisely where a young player needs a certain amount of time to get used to all the routines,” he said.

On the possibilities of featuring the rookie in competitive matches, the coach was, however, non-committal, saying: “I don’t want to make any predictions about Mwisho.

“We thought long and hard about what the right path is for him. And we came to the conclusion that the high-intensity training sessions with us and the recurring test matches are a good path for him.”

Titz said he will continue featuring Mhango in friendly matches.

“With the ball, Mhango is already very noticeable and has already accumulated many good actions. However, the bigger areas for improvement currently lie in his work off the ball,” he said.

Mhango signed a five-year deal upon joining the club in September last year after impressing at the 2025 Cosafa Under-20 Championship in Namibia where he won the Player-of-the Tournament and Golden Boot Awards.

He was also the team’s centrepiece to finishing second to South Africa’s Amajita at the tournament.

After making his Flames’ debut against Zambia, Mhango also received praise from head coach Kalisto Pasuwa, who said: “He did well and can be part of this team.
