Two foreign artists, Ugandan Anecho Edward, popularly known as Blazy  and Ghanaian Afro-pop star Derrick Abbey Thomson aka Jaytomson, who were engaged to perform at Dorvic Hotel in Blantyre on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day did not make it, a development that also affected the patronage at both shows.
Malawi is highly shunned by foreign artists from West Africa and the news that the two were coming created hype and anticipation, apart from that it was the only music shows hosting foreign artists during the festive season.
This could be read from the hundreds of people who turned up at the venue for the Tuesday evening show.
However, only a few paid for the show after learning that the guest artists had failed.
Even the Christmas show at the same venue, which was supposed to feature the foreign artists, did not have a high patronage as the venue is renowned for when hosting music shows.
Despite a handful of people making it, organisers of the show went ahead with the performances that took the patrons to the early hours of Christmas Day.
Organiser of the shows, DJ Scarper said the artists failed to make the trip for genuine reasons.
“It was an official agreement but they were both affected by incidents that could not allow them to travel. Blazy lost his father on Sunday and Jaytomson failed because his visa was not cleared on time,” said DJ Scarper.
He said Jaytomson has now cleared the visa and will come for a New Year phungwe at the Portuguese Club in Lilongwe on December 31.
DJ Scrapper was however, not sure about Blazy, saying he is yet to hear from the artist.
In an interview with The Nation, Jaytomson, who has performed at several international stages across the world, said he lives by promises, but he was let down by visa problems.
He said he is coming for the final show and will give a performance that will make prove that his failure to come to Malawi was genuine.n
