Good start for U-19 women’s cricket team
The Malawi Under-19 Women’s National Cricket Team has made a good start at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division Two Qualifier in Uganda after beating Cameroon on Sunday and Sierra Leone yesterday.
In yesterday’s match, Malawi delivered a strong performance to secure a convincing 70-run victory.
In their opening match on Sunday, Malawi saw off Cameroon by eight wickets.

They dominated the contest as all-rounder Bridget Kasinja led the charge with an outstanding spell with the ball, claiming four wickets to bag the player of the match accolade.
Cameroon won the toss and elected to bowl first in their opening match, but were restricted to 42-all out after 13.4 overs as they faced Malawi’s disciplined and sharp bowling.
Malawi chased down the score to claim victory with 43/2 in just 6.4 overs.
The team’s captain Favour Piliyesi attributed their emphatic victories to discipline, saying they remained calm under pressure.
“The two wins encourages us to go far in this competition. Our coach told us not to give up, but remain focused even when we see ourselves trailing.,” she said.
Malawi will also face Mozambique tomorrow and Kenya on Thursday.
Cricket Malawi president Vivek Ganesan yesterday said it feels good to see Malawi having a good start and being on the right track to defending the honours in the qualifying tournament following their success in 2024.
“We are taking one game at a time. The girls are in good spirits and are putting up an impressive show,” he said.
