GOtv league unveiling ceremony Friday

Multichoice Malawi will unveil the GOtv Netball Champions League this Friday in readiness for a launch at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.

This has been done to pave the way for Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) officials to attend the unveiling event and be able to travel to Mzuzu for NAM’s annual general meeting the following day.

Multichoice Malawi sales and marketing manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda said the Friday event will reveal the sponsorship package and other logistics.

“Unveiling the league on Saturday would have meant not having NAM officials at the ceremony.

“So, it was fair to let them grace the occasion as they are the ones who will be administering the competition,” said Nyirenda.

During the Saturday launch, a select netball side from the Southern Region will meet their Central Region counterparts whereas Bullets FC will play Silver Strikers.

The winner in the football match will get K1 million (about $2 500) whereas the loser will pocket K500 000 (about $1 250). In addition, each team will receive 20 percent of the gate takings.

“The footbal match will be played for 90 minutes and there will be no extra time. The prize presentation will take place in a traditional set-up. GOtv will give the winner a wooden trophy designed by Malawians. Branded uniforms for each team will bear players’ names at the back,” he said.

The GOtv Netball Champions League will involve Civonets, Bingu Tigresses, MTL Queens and Escom Sisters.

All participating teams in the league will be dressed by Multichoice who have gone a step further to design each club’s logo.

Veteran netballers will be the league’s commentators and some games will be beamed on MBC TV/GOtv.
