Listen to this article

Two months after dissolving the board of Electricity Generation Company (Egenco) on July 22 2023, the Office the President and Cabinet (OPC) is yet to announce a new board.

Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba, chairperson of the Egenco board herself, reportedly communicated the dissolution of her board.

Confirmed the dissolution: Gwaza

Weekend Nation could not independently establish reasons for the dissolution of the board before the expiry of its tenure.

Egenco spokesperson Moses Gwaza confirmed the dissolution of the board and the date the decision was made.

Minister of Information and Digitalisation Moses Kunkuyu was yet to respond to our questionnaire in which sought reasons for the premature dissolution of the board, and the impact the absence of the board may cause while Comptroller of Statutory Corporations Peter Simbani did not pick our phone calls.

The dissolved board comprised Betty Mahuka, Oswin Kasunda, Henry Kdzakumanja, Arthur Mandambwe and Evans Msiska, while Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary for Energy, Comptroller of Statutory Corporations and the Solicitor General and Secretary for Justice acted as ex-officio members.
