Two Malawian football players, forward Green Harawa and midfielder Louis Minjale, have successfully completed trials with top Botswana clubs Township Rollers and BP Sporting XI.

Minjale has already signed a two-year deal with Sporting XI while Harawa is set to be offered a contract by tomorrow, according to Silver Strikers FC chairperson McDonald Mafuta-Mwale.

“We have been contacted by Rollers management that they are impressed with Harawa. They would want to start transfer negotiations after agreeing personal terms with the player,” said Mafuta-Mwale.

He added: “Although, we are going to miss his services, we are happy for him because this shows a stepping stone for greater things for him.”

Harawa was last season’s TNM Super League player-of-the-season.

Minjale, who had had stints in Mauritius and Mozambique in the past decade, said he was excited at the development and believes it could provide him the platform for Flames selection.

“I underwent week-long trials and I thank God that I made the grade. I am hoping to give out my all and be considered for the national team,” said Minjale from Gaborone.

He said he has been in touch with another Malawian veteran midfielder Lawrence Majawa who was a source of inspiration during the trials.

“The season is starting on August 2 and we are going into pre-season camping for two weeks then thereafter, we’ll travel to Lesotho and Johannesburg in South Africa for further camping ahead of the new season,” said Minjale. He played for Chingale de Tete in Mozambique before his move to Botswana.

Last season, Sporting XI finished eighth out of 16 teams.
