Harvests in Mwanza, Neno satisfying—Government

Malawi Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has expressed satisfaction with the anticipated bumper harvest in Mwanza and Neno following good rainfall pattern this growing season.

Peter Mwanza said this during a field day tour in the two southern districts on Tuesday.

“I came here to look at what these two districts are doing. These districts are very important in terms of weather because rain has been a problem. However, what I have seen today shows that the rain has not been bad [this year] as it has resulted in good production of maize and other crops,” said Mwanza.

He expressed optimism that Malawi can be a self-sufficient country through massive crop production. “I have seen women, who are happy after receiving goats from the President in a pass on programme,” said Mwanza.

The minister further urged farmers to take farming as a business. “All the time, I ask farmers to regard farming as a business and it should be a business which should be making them busy 12 months a year,” he added.
