Health facility set to improve services delivery in Blantyre

Deputy Minister of Health Noah Chimpeni says the construction of Chipande Health Centre in Traditional Authority (T/A) Machinjiri in Blantyre will improve health service delivery in the area.

He said this on Friday when he opened the facility which has been built with support from Akonda Ministries International.

Chimpeni said the facility will ease challenges communities were facing in accessing healthcare services.

He said: “As government, we are committed to ensuring that we are delivering improved healthcare services to the nation, bearing in mind that we need to achieve the country’s long-term development strategy, Malawi 2063.

“However, to achieve the strategy, we need collaboration with our development partners.”

Akonda Mi n i s t r i e s International country director Klaus Chikufenji said the K400 million facility will cover a population of 18 000.

He said they decided to come up with the facility after realising how communities have been facing challenges to access healthcare services.

“I grew up here and I saw how people were struggling to access healthcare services,” said Chikufenji.

One of the community members from Nkozomba Village in T/A Machinjiri Ethel Mataka thanked the ministries for the initiative.

“It was difficult because for women to access healthcare services they had to travel to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital or a nearest facility in Chiradzulu,” she said.

Chimpeni also opened the renovated maternity, outpatient department and dental facilities at Chilomoni Health Centre renovated by Alex’s Medical and Educational Clinic in Africa Trust.
