The High Court in Mzuzu has reviewed bail conditions for two murder suspects remanded at Mzimba District Prison on the basis that they have babies.

The two suspects Judith Kanyinji of Kaweya Village Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzumba and Collina Banda of Chinjoka Village, Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzimba failed to meet earlier bail conditions and remained in prison on remand.

The earlier conditions stated that the two pay K20 000 cash to the court, produce two sureties bonded at K100 000 (about $250) not cash each, report to the nearest police station once every two weeks, surrender travel documents if there are any and should not leave the country without the sanction of the court.

The two suspects failed to meet the conditions as they are poor and remained on remand at Mzimba Prison.

Meanwhile, Justice Dingiswayo Madise has reviewed the conditions and the two have been released on bail.

They are now bonded at K20 000 (about $50) non-cash and the judge has also asked the two to be their own sureties with no value attached, report to Luwawa Police Station every two weeks and must not leave the country without the sanction of the court.
