Eastern Region Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Committee (ERWBC) is courting Mr Malawi runner-up Yasin Ichocho Suwedi to act as the crowd-puller during the inaugural Mr Zomba contest which has been moved fromDecember 15 to 26 at Mulunguzi Cottage.

ERWBC general secretary Bright Limani told Nation Online on Thursday that Ichocho’s popularity among local sports lovers would help to add value to their event which will be curtain-raised by a boxing bout between semi-professional pugilists Roy Yuda and Trouble Maere.

“I would say, at present, Ichocho is the most popular bodybuilder who can attract big patronage at our contest and he can inspire participants,” Limani said.

While revealing that WT Food Zone will be the event’s additional sponsor to Mervin Autoparts, Limani said the Ndirande Township-based bodybuilder is a hardworking athlete whose exploits would assist to raise the profile of the sport in the country.

Ichocho, who was also recently honoured with a long-term sponsorship deal with College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex and Yiannakis General Import and Export, said he is humbled by the latest recognition.

“God is doing great things for me. Many people would like to see me face-to-face and I am willing to be used as a vessel through which the message about the excitement of the sport will be spread countrywide,” said Ichocho.
